Ego celebrate their tenth birthday this year with the first restaurant in Heswall opening in 1999. Since then the company has gone from strength to strength, slowly expanding when perfect neighbourhood locations came up.
Community is still at the core of the Ego philosophy. Much of its food is locally sourced and it has helped raise thousands of pounds for local charities over the years and supports schools all over town.
General manager Lisa Mower at Heswall, who has been at the restaurant for the majority its successful first decade, said: “Ego is still the most popular eating place in town and always has an energetic buzz about it. Even in today’s climate we’re exceptionally busy – with local people, businesses and families. There have been plenty of highlights over the past ten years, including our popular junior chef schools and healthy eating programmes for primary school children.
“Our Saturday live music nights are a real draw and Sundays, in true Mediterranean style, are focused on the whole family with children’s entertainment a roaring success for our younger visitors. We recently introduced monthly theme nights on the first Wednesday of every month which focus on particular areas of the Mediterranean which are proving extremely popular.”
“Ego has a wonderful holiday feel about it – a combination of laid back relaxation and freshly prepared food. One of our favourite words is “loveliness” and that’s what we’re all about here – lovely place, lovely food, lovely people, and lovely atmosphere. We aim to carry on being lovely for many years to come.”

Bramhall is named the Best Place to Live in the Country
It’s now official - Bramhall is the Best Place to Live in the Country!
For the past few days AboutMyArea has been involved in keeping the content secret concerning the recent visit by the BBC North West Tonight TV crew, but now we can reveal that in a recent research compiled for the BBC by Professor Danny Dorling at the University of Sheffield, who has been looking at how communities have changed over the past 40 years, that Bramhall has come out on top! - Yes Bramhall is the most neighbourly.
The findings are that community life in this country has weakened considerably and the report describes how neighbourhoods throughout the UK have become more fragmented.
However when it comes to a feeling of belonging Bramhall comes out on top as a place where local people are proud to ‘belong’ and the feeling of loneliness - is not a major problem. The locals in Bramhall have a stronger sense of belonging to their area than anywhere else in the UK, research suggests.
Bramhall came bottom of the national “anomie” index - an academic term for estimating the percentage of people who feel a poor sense of belonging to an area - with 14.96%.
Local Bramhall Area Committee Chairman Cllr Paul Bellis was delighted with the report that puts Bramhall as the most neighbourly place to live in the UK. Paul is not surprised and fully agrees that there is a great sense of belonging and community spirit in the Village and as a fine example of this, is the way in which the local people have rallied behind the latest initiative to “Light Up Bramhall This Christmas”. The local schools, churches, businesses and local eateries are all working together to make our Christmas Tree Light Switch-On something special (Saturday 6th December at 4.30pm with free Christmas Cheer & Nibbles being supplied by 14 eateries in the Bramhall)
Ego raises £1992 for Macmillan
On Wednesday our newest restaurant in Kenilworth was full with local businesses and local people all of which enjoyed the service and food ego had to offer. In exchange the guests were asked to contribute to Macmillian rather than pay the bill! A wonderful £1992 is making its way to Macmillan Cancer Charity.
Ego Restaurant Awarded First Taste Liverpool Accreditation
Three restaurants have been awarded the first accreditations in the Taste Liverpool scheme.
Ego Restaurant is one of the first eateries in the Liverpool City Region to be awarded this new official recognition of their quality.
Around another 20 restaurants are awaiting the results of their assessments and due to the success of this pilot, The Mersey Partnership is offering the scheme to another 30 members.
Based on the successful Taste Lancashire scheme, which now has more than 100 members, Taste Liverpool highlights establishments who show excellence in the areas of customer service and food and drink provision, and offer a quality dining experience to visitors in the Liverpool City Region.
A rigorous assessment is made by a mystery inspector, who has been trained to national standards. To win certification, the restaurant or café or bar must meet strict criteria including quality of food, hospitality, service and efficiency and cleanliness.
“As well as highlighting to diners those eateries which have subjected themselves to rigorous inspection, the initiative also helps boost the hospitality and tourism initiatives in Merseyside,” said Martin King, Director of Tourism for The Mersey Partnership.
The scheme is independently assessed by Quality in Tourism, with three accreditations available. Restaurants who score 60 to 80% in the independent assessment will receive a Taste Liverpool Quality Assured accreditation.
Those who score 80% or over will receive a Taste Liverpool Highest Quality Assured accreditation.
While restaurants that demonstrate they use and promote locally-sourced produce may additionally receive a “Made in the North West” accreditation.
Ego Restaurant is a place where “guests are given a warm greeting at the door” and offers “a good choice of pasta and other Mediterranean dishes. It is understood that there are plans to incorporate more locally sourced produce.”
